Unfortunately for the tourism chiefs, Ibiza has become synonymous with partying, particularly in Britain. 2.5 million people visit the isle every year, a third of whom are British.
Mike Posner’s “I Took A Pill In Ibiza” caused controversy upon its release, by adding Seeb’s remix of the song to A-lists because it’s about taking a pill. The lyrics clearly follow the negative consequences of taking ecstasy – which is the reason the track made it to Radio 1 – tourism chiefs in Ibiza are annoyed the Spanish holiday isle is being characterized by such debauchery.
Tourism chiefs are not happy with the ranking of this hit song especially because the music video, which includes the lyrics “you don’t want to be high like me”, features a man with paper mâché head going out clubbing, having sex in toilets, and helping a friend as they throw up. Very BAD picture for the tourists about the White Island of Ibiza!
“We have invited the author of this song to discover Ibiza because we have much more to offer besides the nightlife which is known worldwide,” said tourism director Vicent Ferrer.
“We have museums, beaches, culture, gastronomy, we have a wide offer but unfortunately we have been typecast this way. Unfortunately someone who wants to consume pills or alcohol can be found in any tourist destination, the fact that it is only us who are pigeonholed does not seem fair.”
The island has the UNESCO World Heritage designation for its cultural wealth, including the outstanding Phoenician site at Sa Caleta, the necropolis at Puig des Molins, and the historic old town of Eivissa, Dalt Vila.
In Ibiza, one of the Balearic Islands, nature, culture and fun galore await you by day and by night. Its beaches and coves compete in beauty with the landscapes of its inland areas.

The liveliness is pretty much reflected in the island’s cultural agenda and night life.
The Ibiza night is famous the all over the world. Besides its fashionable bars and night clubs, there is also a host of other activities that get underway once the sun goes down: street markets, terrace bars, open-air cultural events, concerts…
